Our Piano Class is a fun and thorough introduction to the piano, designed specifically for TK-8th graders. In this class students are given an introduction both to the keyboard and to the study of music, with a focus on hand position, note-reading, chord vocabulary, rhythm, and music theory, all while learning fun songs at each class. Each student will have their own keyboards, headphones and lesson book (we use the most well-regarded and child friendly piano method). And parents will receive updates after each class from MySkillChart, which tracks individual student progress through Hummingbird’s curriculum.

Our Ukulele Class is a fun introduction to the ukulele, designed specifically for TK-8th graders. The ukulele - also known as “the instrument of peace” - is a great instrument to begin studying music, especially for smaller hands! In this class students will learn an assortment of chords, a variety of finger picking and strumming styles, and will learn to play (and sing along to!) several well-known songs. Each student will have their own soprano ukulele and lesson book (we use the most well-regarded and child friendly ukulele method). And parents will receive updates after each class from MySkillChart, which tracks individual student progress through Hummingbird’s curriculum.

After School Music Class FAQ’s:

Question: Does my child need to bring anything to Piano or Ukulele Class?
Answer: No! Hummingbird will be providing a keyboard/headphones or a ukulele for each child.

Question: What happens if my child goes to After School, SMART-E, Neighborhood Kid’s Corner, After Care, etc?
Answer: We are in close communication with these groups, and have coordinated with them for years. They will walk your child to us when class begins, and will pick up your child when class ends.

Question: What if my child does not go to any extended care?
Answer: Your child will go directly to music class when the release bell rings. Most of our classes are held in the school’s multi-use room. Note that we do not pick up children from their classrooms. If your child cannot walk to our class on their own, this class might not be right for them.

Question: What is the set up for PIano Class? Do children share keyboards?
Answer: Every child in our Piano Class has their own 66-key keyboard, headphone and lesson book.

Question: What if my child took Piano Class with Hummingbird last year? Will they be repeating the same material?
Answer: No! Returning students will continue from where they left off!
